100 Homemade Dog Treats | Ep.1: The "Breath Freshener" Herb Swiss Roll

Are "stinky kisses" from your furry friend becoming a bit too much to handle? I’m Yumi Mama, a certified Pet Nutritionist, and today I’m launching a new series: The 100 Homemade Dog Treat Challenge!
Our first recipe is not only Instagram-worthy but also a functional snack designed to tackle bad breath from the inside out. Let’s dive into the Herbal Breath Freshener Swiss Roll.

Why These Herbs Work? 🍃

Bad breath isn't just about teeth; it often starts in the gut. We’ve selected three powerhouse herbs for this recipe:
  • Mint: Nature’s natural deodorizer. It’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and keeps the mouth fresh.
  • Parsley: Perfect for soothing an upset stomach, reducing gas, and balancing excess stomach acid—major culprits of foul breath.
  • Basil: Boosts appetite while helping to soothe intestinal inflammation.

👩🍳 The Recipe: Herbal Swiss Roll

Ingredients & Nutrition (Est. per 100g):
  • Base: Fresh Chicken Breast (High protein, low fat) — Approx. 18g Protein / 2g Fat
  • Fiber & Color: Bell Peppers (Rich in Vitamin C)
  • The Secret Sauce: Fresh Mint, Parsley, and Basil

Step-by-Step Guide:
  1. The Green Secret: Blanch the mint leaves in boiling water and pat dry. This preserves that vibrant "matcha green" color and locks in the aroma.
  2. Prep the Filling: Dice the bell peppers. Blend the chicken into a smooth paste. Mix a portion of the chicken paste with the peppers—this will be your inner filling.
  3. The Herbal Crust: Blend the remaining chicken paste with the blanched mint, parsley, and basil. You'll get a beautiful, light green dough with a refreshing herbal scent.
  4. The Roll: Spread the green herbal paste flat on plastic wrap. Layer the pepper-chicken filling on top. Gently roll it up, give it a little squeeze to round it out, and steam until cooked through!

💡 Pro Tip from Yumi Mama

When rolling, keep it tight but gentle to ensure the layers stick together perfectly. This treat is low-calorie and grain-free, making it a perfect daily snack for dogs with sensitive tummies.
